題目: Brain-inspired HPC systems
概要:
Conventional HPC systems excel at dense, synchronous numerical workloads, but many emerging scientific and engineering problems are dominated instead by sparse communication, asynchronous updates, and strict latency constraints. SpiNNaker2 is a massively parallel neuromorphic computing platform designed to address this complementary regime.

In this talk, I will introduce SpiNNaker2 and discuss how its event-driven architecture enables efficient execution of workloads characterized by irregular communication and distributed state updates. Beyond large-scale real-time brain simulation, these capabilities open opportunities in optimization, nonlinear dynamical systems, stochastic processes, and other distributed computational models that can be reformulated as interacting event-based systems.

I will present representative application domains, including large-scale spiking neural simulation, distributed optimization and QUBO/Ising formulations, complex adaptive systems, and real-time cognitive/robotic processing, and discuss where such architectures complement rather than replace conventional HPC infrastructures. The talk will conclude with perspectives on algorithm–hardware co-design for emerging computational paradigms and opportunities for collaboration on novel application mappings.
